We Invite You to Get Involved!
Claremont McKenna College parents are an integral part of the College, and CMC will be the center of your student’s life for four years and beyond. Volunteering provides parents with the opportunity to stay in touch with life on campus, meet friends and professors, and actively support your student’s educational experience.
The goal of parent volunteer efforts is, broadly, to enhance the CMC experience for students and their families – and more specifically, to provide opportunities for connecting parents with other parents, alumni, students, staff, and faculty in the CMC community. Available volunteer opportunities include:
PARENT NETWORK BOARD
The Parent Network Board provides a forum for sharing experiences, activities, accomplishments, and overall campus life concerns, as well as general fellowship with other parents. The Board sponsors activities that provide parents with an opportunity to become more familiar with CMC’s educational mission and CMC’s administrators, faculty, students, alumni, and other parents. Potential committees include:
- Admission Liaison Committee - Recruit on for CMC! Work with the CMC Office of Admission and attend college fairs and/or visit high school college counselors in your area to share information about CMC. Serve as a resource for prospective families, and reach out to welcome parents of incoming CMCers.
- Career Development Committee – Students are always eager to connect with CMC parents to discuss careers, employment, and internships. You can assist The Soll Center for Student Opportunity in various areas: sponsor internships, discuss your employment or graduate school experience and offer advice, identify employment opportunities, offer to present career workshops, conduct mock interviews with students, mentor a student, or hold an information session to get the word out about your organization. You can learn more on the Career Services for Families website.
- Communications Committee – Support the Parent Network communications efforts by researching and writing articles for the CMC Parent E-News and provide ideas and content for CMC’s Parent Network social media.
- Jil Stark '58 GP'11 Award Committee – Named in honor of Jil Stark '58 GP'11 for her enormous generosity, commitment, and dedication to CMC, this award recognizes and honors parents who have contributed in a meaningful way to the mission of the College. Assist the committee in gathering nominations and presenting this award at Family Weekend to the parent volunteer of the year.
- Parents Fund Giving Committee – The Parents Fund Committee, sponsored by the Office of Annual Giving, functions in cooperation with the Parent Network Board as its primary fundraising committee. The main mission of the committee is to assist the College in its efforts to raise the vital funds that bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of a CMC education. Engage your peers and ask for their support, and reach out to offer thanks to donors.
- Programs Committee – Assist with events such as Parent and Family Orientation, Family Weekend, and Inside CMC Day. Provide input for the programs and activities offered during these events, and serve as a resource for other families during the event.
If you are interested in being involved, need more information or have a question, please contact the Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement via email at parents@cmc.edu or phone (909) 621-8097.
