Friday, June 14 - Exploring Edinburgh's Rich History

Welcome to Edinburgh!
Walking Tour of Auld Reekie

At 4:00 p.m., we will gather for an in-depth tour of the city of Edinburgh. Our tour guide will take us through the narrow cobblestone streets and alleys where important Scottish philosophers and politicians have walked. During this tour, we will be able to glimpse at Arthur's Seat, the dormant volcano and rumored site for the legendary Camelot. Learn about the real Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and how Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson was inspired by the city of Edinburgh and his fellow Scots. The group will visit Greyfriars Kirkyard, a famous graveyard in the city of Edinburgh where important historical figures are buried and whose many dwellers inspired the names of characters in JK Rowling's Harry Potter. You will want to have your cameras read to snap photos of all the important sites!
Cost: $20 per person;  pre-registration is required.

Rendezvous Dinner - The Theatre Royal Bar

After the group is finished with the grand tour of Edinburgh, we will dine at The Theatre Royal bar. We will enjoy homemade traditional British cuisine as well as quality local ales, malt whiskies, and beers. While indulging in a traditional pub experience, everyone will have a chance to mingle and reconnect with one another.

Saturday, June 15 - Wandering Through Edinburgh's Royal Mile

Good Morning!
Tour of Edinburgh Castle

The day begins at 10:00 a.m. with a tour of Edinburgh Castle, the historical fortress of the city. Once the home to Scottish monarchs, Edinburgh Castle sits on a volcanic crag known as Castle Rock and is believed to have been inhabited since the Iron Age. Repeatedly besieged during the 17th and 18th centuries, the castle houses Scotland's crown jewels as well as the Stone of Destiny, the sandstone upon which Scottish monarchs were traditionally crowned.
Cost: $25 per person and pre-registration is required.

After the tour of the Edinburgh Castle, our group will break for a no-host lunch at the Royal Mile, which runs through the heart of Edinburgh and features Scottish and European restaurants.

Tour of Holyrood Palace

At 2:30 p.m., join us for a tour of Holyrood Palace, the official residence of the reigning British Monarch in Scotland. Founded in 1128 by David I of Scotland, the palace has undergone multiple renovations under the direction of famous monarchs, like Charles II and Queen Victoria. At Holyrood Palace, the group will be able to see the private room of Mary, Queen of Scots, the State apartments, the official Throne Room, and the 4-hectare Palace Gardens.
Cost: $30 per person; pre-registration is required.

Euromeet Reunion Dinner - Amber Restaurant and Whisky Bar

To finish the night, we will gather for the Euromeet Reunion Dinner, featuring remarks by CMC’s Euroscholar Hanna Shiferaw '20. The group will dine at Amber, which provides modern Scottish cuisine and drink. Amber sources its ingredients from Scottish land, lochs, and seas and strives to provide delicious meals for its guests. The dinner will bring the group together for conversations and camaraderie.
Cost: $70 per person; pre-registration is required.

Sunday, June 16

Trip to Royal Yacht Britannia and Leith!

On our last day in Scotland, we will meet at The Glasshouse hotel for a Scottish breakfast and a lecture by a CMC professor on politics and royalty.

After breakfast, we will travel to the coastal town of Leith, where the Royal Yacht Britannia is berthed. For more than 44 years, the Britannia served the Royal family and provided a space for official receptions, royal honeymoons, and relaxing family holidays. Everyone will be able to glimpse into the Royal Apartments, where Queen Elizabeth II hosted dignitaries like Sir Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, Ronald Reagan, and Boris Yeltsin. A no host-lunch will be in the town of Leith after the tour of the Royal Yacht Britannia. Cost: $30 per person and pre-registration is required.

After the tour the group will return to Edinburgh. This will conclude this year’s Euromeet!
