An Evening with Professor Sharda Umanath

"Exploring Memory and Aging, and the Strengths That Come from General Knowledge Increasing"

Saturday, March 7 | 4:00 p.m.

Professor Sharda Umanath

Tofino Wines
2696 Geary Boulevard
San Francisco, CA 94118

Join the Bay Area Chapter and Professor Sharda Umanath, associate professor of psychology, for a discussion on aging and memory. Healthy older adults often remember fewer specific events and with less detail, compared with younger adults. In contrast however, general knowledge does not decline but continues to increase with age. Dr. Umanath discuss the positive aspects of memory as we age and how this intact knowledge can help compensate for other memory deficits. She will also shed light on her research, where the goal is to improve older adults' everyday memory experiences which can have cascading benefits for broader cognition and health.

Professor Umanath was voted as a rising star by the Association for Psychological Science. Her innovative research in the field of cognitive psychology focuses on event, autobiographical, and collective memory among young and older adults.
