Professor George Thomas was recognized with the 2022-23 Presidential Award for Merit, one of CMC’s highest honors. President Hiram E. Chodosh presented the award to Thomas, noting he is a powerful voice on the issues of our time.

The Athenas Tennis Team was invited to the White House recently to celebrate College Athlete Day and the team’s second straight NCAA national championship. “This was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Sena Selby ’24. “It was such a privilege to be here with my team!”

As the pilot Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences course, “Codes of Life,” concluded this spring semester, students made their final research presentations, bringing biology, chemistry, and computer science together to explore community issues related to human health.

Several scholar-leaders will soon embark on journeys to pursue their research, public service, and teaching aspirations—work made possible by their attainment of prestigious scholarships, fellowships, and grants, including three Fulbrights.

Sharon Basso, VP of Student Affairs, has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; while Dianna “DT” Graves ’98, AVP of Student Affairs and Dean of Students, becomes VP of Student Affairs. Basso will serve as acting President while President Hiram E. Chodosh takes a much-deserved six-month sabbatical.

Retired U.S. Ambassador C. Steven McGann ’73, whose distinguished diplomatic and public service career spanned decades and who dedicated his life to global peace, security, and gender equality, recently passed away. A member of the CMC Board of Trustees, McGann was 71 years old.

The Claremont McKenna College Board of Trustees elected three new regular trustees and an alumna trustee in academic year 22–23. The Board also elected three life trustees for roles effective July 1.
