At CMC’s 73rd convocation, President Hiram E. Chodosh called for responsible leadership, a theme echoed by speakers Gastón Espinosa, Arthur V. Stoughton Professor of Religious Studies, and Dina Rosin ’20, president of the Associated Students of CMC.
A voracious learner and globally respected scientific innovator, Neff died unexpectedly on Aug. 25. Neff was named a Trustee in 2002 and was the “living embodiment of CMC’s mission in the sciences,” said Board Chair David G. Mgrublian ’82 P’11.
CMC received the Institutional Excellence Award from Heterodox Academy. CMC was recognized for “doing the most to advance or sustain open inquiry, viewpoint diversity, and constructive disagreement.”
Sweet has been promoted to the chief executive of Accenture, a business consulting firm. She becomes the 27th woman to lead an S&P 500 company. “I represent all our employees, which includes over 200,000 women,” Sweet said in a New York Times story.
Prof. Sinha has found a hungry audience for understanding global politics among CMC students. An expert on international organizations, she inspires her students to love distant lands.

Prof. Guthrie was a biology and environmental science professor during his 48 years with Keck Science. He was instrumental in setting up the science department for CMC, Pitzer, and Scripps.
Chanel Murchison has been appointed the new head coach of CMS Women's Basketball. Murchison will take over as the fifth head coach in the history of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball for the 2019-20 season.
