CMC Year in Review
2022 was a groundbreaking year for CMC! From community accolades and 75th Anniversary celebrations, to transformative investments in integrated sciences, and the largest events in CMC history, the year was filled with great moments. Relive it through this special year-end video.
Ward Elliott, a beloved Claremont McKenna College professor who inspired the minds and spirits of generations of students through his teaching, mentorship, and singing parties, died on Dec. 6, 2022, at age 85.

A nationally respected leader in the field of industrial and operations engineering, Harriet B. Nembhard ’91 will become the sixth president of Harvey Mudd College. She served on CMC’s inaugural Integrated Sciences Advisory Council, and for three years as an alumna trustee.
Danish artist Jeppe Hein’s bright red Modified Social Benches Claremont, recently installed at CMC, were officially dedicated on campus. Hein followed up with a unique artist talk: part sensory experience, part performance, part lecture with plenty of audience interaction.
Emily Pears ’08 followed her interest in political philosophy to earn a PhD in politics. Now a professor in CMC’s government department, she’s come full circle, teaching CMCers, advising seniors on their theses, and publishing an award-winning book.
CMC undergraduates, along with elder students who graduated from college in the 1970s, collaborated on projects and learned together. The intergenerational psychology course offered opportunities that reach beyond the classroom.
With its most recent victory, the CMCMUN team reached an unprecedented four out of five Best Delegation awards this fall semester. “We are overjoyed… Our hard work to create a supportive and inclusive community on our team has paid off,” said CMCMUN Vice President Nicole Jonassen ’24.

Senior cornerback Ben Cooney ’22, who led the CMS football team to a 7-2 record and a share of the SCIAC championship, became the first player in program history to earn American Football Coaches Association First-Team All-America honors, the organization announced on Dec. 13.
