Jon Shields, Professor of Government, published a guest essay in the Opinion section of The New York Times, “What Happens When One Party Monopolizes Competence” (March 9, 2026), which draws on research from a new book that explores how traditional Republicans are resisting their MAGA-aligned counterparts in Wyoming, America’s reddest state. The new book is The Republican Civil War: What Liz Cheney’s Wyoming Tells Us About a Divided American Right (Oxford University Press, 2026), co-authored with Stephanie Muravchik, CMC Senior Lecturer on Government and the Associate Faculty Director of the Kravis Lab for Civic Leadership
