Equipment and Instruments
The Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences is housed in the new Robert Day Sciences Center (RDSC). The RDSC has approximately 7000 square feet of wet lab research space and 3000 square feet of research support spaces, two computing research labs, and seven teaching labs with adjacent prep rooms. The department and its research groups have extensive scientific instrumentation and infrastructure supporting both teaching and research. Major resources include:
Laboratory infrastructure: Autoclaves, glass-washing systems, cold rooms, fume hoods, environmental chambers, and facilities for sample preparation and storage.
Imaging and microscopy: Confocal, epifluorescence, two-photon/multiphoton, and other advanced optical microscopy and imaging systems.
Analytical and molecular instrumentation: LC-MS, GC-MS, HPLC, FTIR, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, elemental and isotope analysis, PCR and related molecular biology instrumentation, as well as NMR spectroscopy available through a collaboration with Harvey Mudd College.
Environmental and field instrumentation: Systems for measuring greenhouse gas exchange, stable isotopes, fluorescence, spectral properties, and other environmental variables.
Computational resources: High-performance computing cluster, computational research laboratories, and specialized scientific software.
